Instagram is becoming a bigger and bigger tool for my businesses. I have been following some great people, watching what they are doing, how they engage with their followers, and paying attention to the look and the feel of their Instagram. I like asking myself these questions:
Who do you follow?
Why do you follow them?
What interests you about what they post?
Do you find yourself following them for business or for your personal life?
What is the feel of your Instagram?
What colors do you find yourself leaning towards?
Do you use filters?
Do you like light and bright or simple and clean?
Do you post consistently?
Are you increasing in your followers?
What type of followers are you attracting?
Who are you marketing to??
When I think about who I love to follow they are usually visually pleasing, have a lot of good content that help me in some way or inspires me. They usually have a similar feel throughout their Instagram and they have both engaging pictures and content. They let me in on who they are, what their life looks like on a day to day basis and in some ways feel like I could be friends with them! They post letting me take a peek at their life so much so that I feel like if I sat down for coffee I could pick right up on a conversation like a friend would.
So here’s how I have changed up my Instagram to get more followers, more engagement and to make more money!
Jenna Kutcher is amazing if you don’t follow her you defiantly should! She makes some great points through her posts. One being, if you ONLY post about your business you are going to turn away followers that might not initially be interested in your product or business. If you just post about your animals you are only going to attract followers interested in your animals and turn off others that might be interested in your business. If you are too specific you are going to miss the chance to gain followers that you might be able to sell to down the road.
So how to you ensure that you can gain a diverse following and still get engagement? I try to post 3 times a day and I rotate between 7 different categories. So start by choosing 5 to 7 things that are important to you and rotate between those. If you have a direct sales business that should be a part of the 5-7 categories you post but shouldn’t be ALL that you post. 1. It’s super annoying to follow people that ONLY try to sell to you. 2. I know that’s not WHO THEY ARE or what defines them it’s only what they do for work.
My categories are:
- personal (me brandon)
- 2- dogs (Stetson and Ellie )
3- business (beyond the berry/direct sales)
5- Jamberry (nailfies, mypersonal journey)
7- food/drink <— yummies
That way if someone isn’t into Jamberry right now they might be interested in my motivation or they might be interested in my direct sales tips and tricks. Someone may not even care about any of that but maybe my tenacity and motivation for business in general will be inspiring and then down the road they might come back and be interested with Jamberry or my educational posts. You just never know what people will be interested in but the more diverse you can be and the more REAL you can be the more they will like you, want to follow you and be waiting to see what the next thing you post is going to be.
I get it we are busy people right!? We all are even though all our lives are so different. Instagram for me can be a pain when I don’t have a picture or time to post so I always take as many pictures as I can so that I have content. You don’t always have to use pictures that are happening now (that’s what insta stories are for) you can use pictures and content from months ago! For me I plan out my content for the week and then use instastories to also tell a story and help me with my marketing! Another tool I would recommend is Planoly. There is a free version and a paid version. You can check it out here. Just like with anything the more consistent you can be the more your followers will expect and want to hear from you. I love it! Today I am planning out the next week of content, getting it scheduled and then it will send me a notification to my phone to remind me to post. My favorite part about it is I can load in pictures to Planoly from my phone or from my computer and create my content from either my phone or the computer too!
Check it out! I can’t wait to see what categories you feature and I hope you can use Planoly to become more consistent in your business!
