My mind is all things conference. I am sure you have noticed a theme the last couple blog posts.
I just finished conference for my company now and am reflecting on the importance of getting to conference.
Why conference? What’s the big deal? Why do your uplines, sidelines and home office push and motivate you to go? I can tell you the event itself isn’t money maker for your company and I would imagine in most cases they lose money. However, with that being said there is HUGE HUGE long term income that the company and YOU could make for investing your time and money in going. When your home office or headquarters tells you they want you there, it is so that they can pour into you, fill your “cup” and send you back into your business with more excitement and enthusiasm then when you showed up. So don’t thing they have ulterior motives. I mean real talk, obviously they want you to be wildly successful because then that ensures longevity in the marketplace and your stability in your business but they want to help!
I know I keep mentioning conference but let’s even break it down and talk a small regional meetings or even an area meeting that happens super close to you (maybe in your own town). These smaller meetings might not be a huge cost for you. Shoot they could be free and just cost you your time. Investing in your business whether is $5 or 2 hours allows you to further commit in what you are doing, puts you steps closer to your goals and mentality is so important (really < —- this is the biggest thing when you commit to yourself and to your goals the universe listens and says, “oh man, it’s time to start taking this chick serious, she really does want to conquer the world/life/finances ect.)
People invest in their life on things that are important. Doesn’t matter if it’s a monetary or a time investment you are still giving something or exchanging that currency (time/money) for knowledge, commitment, inspiration, motivation and community. Get there, that’s what’s important. If you have any goals within your business get there. Make it a priority, because really if you can’t make it happen and get there you need to have some real talk and think, “Is this a hobby or a business for me and do my goals, vision and dreams align with that?”
If you didn’t make it to a recent event or conference, OH WELL, don’t beat yourself up. It didn’t happen for some reason, and maybe your priorities, vision and goals were different. NO excuses going forward. You now have all the time, effort and energy to plan and make it happen in the future. Because, seriously, no joke you need to go.
My first regional event was really the start to truly changing my business. It was a weekend in San Diego staying with teammates I had never met before. I HAD TO DRIVE 6 hours by myself to an event where I really knew no one but I wanted to grow, learn and dominate faster than the path I was on. It was so amazing to feel a part of something bigger. This event allowed me to build my community bigger, grow my confidence in myself and my ability as a leader. Oh, and I met Mandy who I didn’t know at the time but would become an important, motivator, friend and inspiration in my Direct Sales journey. You really never know all of the ripple effects from conference or events until you look back and reflect. That first event was in 2014. That very next month I promoted to Executive with my company and 3 months later to the next rank or Sr. Exec. I really think that going, committing to myself that this isn’t just some crazy hobby for me this is a business and if I want to earn business income I better work like it is a business.
Flash forward to July of 2016 I was going to Texas for my first BIG international conference. The craziest part I had 14 people from my team invest in themselves. 14! That was HUGE for our team. The excitement, knowledge, passion we left conference with had grown for all of us. It allowed us to bond, create closer friendships, lean on one another and allowed us to experience something as a community that I think helped to strengthen our team. Last year we had 20 and this year we had 25! Growth is great but the amount of passion those people left with this year is even more important!
Let’s face it… My love language is also recognition and gifts, so conference and events are just 1 part of my business that really allows me to feel fulfilled. Have you ever been recognized at your current job for something you did great or by your family for that kick ass job you did cleaning the house? Yeah me either. So this for me, this is a HUGE component of why I love events so much. It also allows me to celebrate those on my team successes from the last year and show them recognition and support.
The training at events is unreal; especially, at large events. They usually pick an inspirational keynote speaker that follows the theme for the year, they typically announce new products and marketing plans for the following year and they help give you so much information and knowledge you wouldn’t have enough time in your day/week/month to implement everything that is awesome sauce.
The best, the brightest and the most successful go to events and conference! They know the impact it can make on their business. WHY wouldn’t you want to take the opportunity to learn from them, surround yourself with them and their brilliance and take everything they say and see how it could fit in your business and life to make you more successful?
You need to be there. You need to go. You need to prioritize where your business fits in your life and really look at is this a business or a hobby for you. Get rid of the, I don’t have time, or I don’t have the money excuse and commit to making it happen. When you say you don’t have time to go or you don’t have money you are just saying it’s not important enough and that’s ok as long as that fits with how you look at your business. Wow real talk huh? If that struck a nerve with you and you are thinking “wow Amanda that was rude.” Know it wasn’t meant to be anything other than real talk, for you to take accountability for where you have been in your business, look to where you are and think big things about where you want to be.
You have the choice and you have the control! Go after your dreams and I can promise you that going to events will help you relight your passion and redefine your dreams. Conference and events are the best, best place to reinvent and commit to your goals, vision and what’s important. GET THERE…. Research when the next opportunity is and save, plan and do the actionable items needed to make sure you don’t miss out! Your business will thank you!
